How We Created a Baby and Kids Marketplace with Drop-Shipping Vendors in 6 Months

 

 

Our client had a vision of creating a marketplace that would offer a wide range of baby and kids products, from clothing to toys, from diapers to furniture, and more. They wanted to work with drop-shipping vendors who would handle the inventory, the delivery, and the customer service.

They asked us to help them turn their vision into reality. We accepted the challenge and started working on the project. We followed a structured and collaborative process, where we involved our client in every step of the way.

The Entire Process

• We used WordPress as the platform for building the website, as it is flexible, scalable, and easy to use. We also used WooCommerce as the e-commerce plugin, as it is powerful, reliable, and compatible with many other plugins.
• We selected Cloudways as hosting provider that could offer us fast, secure, and affordable hosting services. We also configured the domain name, the SSL certificate, emails, and the backup system.
• We chose a theme that matched our client’s brand identity and preferences: Woodmart. We also customized this beautiful theme to fit our client’s needs and expectations.
• We added various plugins to enhance the functionality and the design of the website, such as Elementor Pro for page building, Rank Math for SEO, Dokan for vendors and WPAI for product imports, and more.
• We implemented a payment method that could accept various payment methods, and the shipping method that could calculate the shipping costs based on the location and the weight of the products.
• We configured the plugins for vendors in drop-shipping mode. We enabled them to create their own stores, upload their products, manage their orders, set their commissions, etc.

   

 

• We defined the structure of the website and the categories of products that needed to be imported. We used various sources to find the best products for our client’s niche market. We also used various tools and cron jobs to automate the import process and manage 20000+ products.
• We faced many challenges along the way, such as finding the right suppliers, optimizing the performance and the scalability of the website, testing and debugging the code, and finally, attracting and retaining customers.
• We worked hard, day and night, for six months, to deliver our solution. We used agile methods and lean principles to iterate and improve our product based on feedback and data. We tested our assumptions and validated our hypotheses with real users. We learned from our mistakes and celebrated our successes.
